rekids introduces a new vinyl only series titled rekids special projects. a more techno orientated division of the label that will feature appearances from the likes of john hester, markus suckut, and dj deep amongst others. first up is ohio-based producer fbk, real name kevin m. kennedy, who has a career spanning three decades and after a seminal release on frictional recordings back in the 90 s recent releases have seen him appear on labels such as marcel dettmann records, barba records and diametric. intricate drums and jagged synths initiate you are not fixed whilst a looped sample recurs throughout the mix. �dynamonium� then enters deeper territories as echoing stabs join a low slung meandering groove before set it free ups the energy with rumbling kicks, distorted vocal murmurs and tantalizing melodies. the final escape then closes the release with a syncopated drum arrangement, mesmerising chords and ethereal atmospherics

slam city jams is back with its second release, produced by young brussel based artist kassett. this multi-talented dude not only makes great music, but also does visual arts (look at that amazing fanzine coming with the record) and has his own label & artist collective called midlife. kassett aka gavin vanælst isn�t about genres, but about emotions when it comes to his music. however, asking him what he would call the sound he makes, his simple answer is: rave ambient. the all i feel 1 million ep� is a record full of diversity. it reaches from emotional and dreamy, arp-based ambient tracks with rave and trance references, to broken beats, weird synth solos, up to a rough but melodious techno tune. finally the cherry on top of this special ep, is a remix by lobster theremin regular imre kiss. he delivered a dark and dubby version of the a2, that sounds like it was recorded underwater.

a new, twenty-track compilation focussing on a twenty-year period (1950-1970) of modern jazz in the little kingdom, featuring the leading players from that era. due to the absence of its main players during the heydays of modern jazz, belgium will not be remembered for a unique jazz sound or an extensive discography. however, the little country produced a number of highly talented musicians who played lead roles on the international jazz scene. let s get swinging: modern jazz in belgium 1950-1970 retraces their steps and presents some of their finest works, including guitarist philip catherine, saxophonist jack sels, multi-instrumentalist jacques pelzer and vibraphone player, percussionist and vocalist fats sadi lallemand.

there is a couple downstairs they don�t specially like each other and nothing matches between them, but they are together everyday and they said things could be worst. they have two large boxes with one hole hiding their faces so they just see what they want to see. they select what is important to look at and stare at it for hours. sometime they may both look at the same thing but they don�t even know it. this is a small part of the soundtrack running in their boxes.

javonntte may hail from detroit but his sound more naturally aligns with the likes of kai alce and that soulful, bumping atlanta vibe. this 12- for troubled kids makes for a perfect case in point, not least on killer opening track -walking in the rain- with its irrepressibly funky groove and on-point vocal turn. -yes house- takes things in a more stripped direction without compromising on warmth, while -united we dance- heads towards an even more club-ready approach full of booming bass and sharp swinging drums. that s just the a-side, and with even more soul-powered goodness spilling out of the flip, there can surely be few house heads out there that wouldn t find a loving home for this record.

remixers getting remixed! the first batch of interpretations for tc�s 2016 debut album adoldesscent arrives with a trio of artists above the ordinary. while tensnake and joe goddard take care of tell me (the former delivers one of his peaking trademark tearjerkers, while the later one is basically meditating on himself), gifted &blessed roman flügel turns the proto-rave of r-mancer into a joyful ride through post-house that not only will make gerdy happy. one record for every turntable.

a year after his extremely versatile debut ep for figure, viers comes out with another batch of tunes that again set him apart from his peers both in production value and creativeness. touching on the tropes of classic detroit techno, saxton presents a beautifully delicate opening track, rife with life from within the machines while still steadily thumping ahead. it�s the mix of this vital momentum together with a certain restraint, allowing each element to breath. so much that even the slightest adjuments cause maximum effectmetro, as felt on suitably titled stomper nothing changed where everything hits in exactly the right place. same goes for the incessant dialogue of tones on zehn, which sigha expands into a pensive piece, layering soothing washes of synths. not only an exceptional ep in its own right, figure 85 further cements viers as a skilled craftsman with seemingly endless imagination.

after more than 2 years of waiting berlin-based artist fabian dikof is back with a new release on best works records his ep the who his trade-mark sound remains: catchy arpeggio-sounds with tech-house synth usage. with these elements he creates a very mature tapestry that gives the tune great dynamic play in its rhythmic morphosis. the track camouflage features berlin-based vocalist ann weller from the band ann & bones. last but not least remixer dubspeeka reworks the original giving it a more minimal techno-flavour and with its tool-character it hits the dance-floor full on. the who ep is yet another great stepping stone for fabian dikof. there is more to come from this gifted producer.

we dont have much info to give about vicram, partly because the artist doesn t want us to communicate the few things we know. but this is his first ep. its super raw - not necessarily rough. raw like a piece of sushi, an unpolished unvarnished beautiful piece of wood, raw like those bare drum machines and simple acid lines. almost naive, like those early 90s idm-techno record we cherish but with a very different angle. as usual, we liked vicram because we dont really understand how he makes his music.

master jazz pianist tenorio jr. aka francisco tenório júnior only recorded this one album, �embalo�, originally released on rge in 1964. rumour has it that he was arrested and thrown in jail (and possibly even murdered) while on tour with toquinho and vinicius de moraes in argentina in 1976. he has not been seen since...

goldmin founder romain lanteaume aka einka meets terrence dixon for a 2nd record which is nothing but a logical suite to the one released last year. this one is probably less deliberately dark but to us the edge was not dark at all, like what we tend to call melancholy isn t obviously a negative feeling. we believe there s no real duality between things and states. there s an incredible amount of degress in between. its always a bit more complex and deeper than the first impression!

if you are looking for an example of how beautiful an independent soul production can sound, this should be your choice. tighten up your love bone and is this really love is probably one of don gardners best releases. due to the fact that even mint original copies play with crackle throughout on both sides this legitimate reissue is even something for hardcore collectors who usually do not buy reissues.

hailing from japan, iori wakasa is a name that has been gathering a great deal of hype over the past few years - and with good reason. having built up his skills as a majorly talented dj in tokyo spinning a wide range of sounds and styles, his reputation continues to grow at pace thanks to a string of amazing releases on labels such as highgrade and wirsindeins in recent years - not to mention strong support by some of the scenes biggest names. here he proves what all the fuss is about - a stunning three track ep on steve bugs dessous recordings. be there starts things off right - uber deep vibes throughout, with bubbling synths and spacey effects, all tied together by a hypnotic chandler-esque rhythm track. give me continues the vibe, deep and jazzy chords punctuate the shuffling rhythm and trippy vocal samples add a layer of wonkiness that will see this get a lot of attention. feel it dizzy strips things down a notch, a bass heavy dancefloor filler with dubbed out percussion, effects and vocals snippets. a triumphant ep from iori wakasa - truly one to watch.

love notes (from brooklyn) serves up another winner, this time with the sonic stylings of the illustious (and also brooklyn based) octo octa, whose not unimpressive discography already includes releases on such heavyweight labels such as running back, argot, and deepblak. from the opening, echoed chords and unique percussive qualities of eyes low, through the spaced out funk of touch formation, to the early morning vibes of i feel, this ep delivers on all levels. this is the 9th release on this fine american imprint and they show no signs of slowing down their sonic agenda.

ant plates vinyl only ventures continue unabated, taking a break from the yse saint laur ant releases and turning to minus the majors instead. whether its just plate in another one of his guises or not is unclear, but the music certainly fits in with the more exploratory, downtempo nature of previous vinyl only releases. he looked is an especially funky number that revolves around crafty beats and warm moog-esque synth ripples. things get more broken on jizz jazz, and then drongo manages to go even further out to sea in its quest for the perfect balance between funk and freakiness.

exactly one year after the release of their second album m eanderlust, randweg r elease their first ep with remixes - by nick höppner, alex.do, luke abbott and in a left place. the double-a-sided anderlus t / requisetales ep appears on funken records to understand how this record is intended, take a closer look at the artwork: no matter how you turn it: a backside does not exist. on their upcoming anderlust / requisetales ep, randweg present rearrangements of tracks from their two former albums. the new versions clearly bear the signature of their producers, but the tracks also reflect the full range of the duo, which has found its very own sound with clarinet, bass and cajon. for the remixes of two tracks from the ir album m eanderlust, randweg attracted nick höppner and alex.do. you can hear the joy both producers had playing with the original material, which was the basis of their versio ns for the anderlust-side. while nick höppner transfers the calmly prancing wokules walzer into a subtle but euphoric house-track, alex.do slows down the tempo in his version of pool, and plunges down deep into a warm downbeat-bath. randweg �s debut-album equisetales was released in 2013, and it would have been a pity if the two remixes from the early days of the duo remained unheard in their private archives. luke abbott surprises with an abstract-pl ayful version of the track ball a nd in a left place turns y ofa into an atmospheric club-track.

it�s a match made in heaven, techno veteran dino sabatini meets up and coming talent luigi tozzi, who over the last couple of years has delivered stellar eps for the likes of hypnus records, dynamic reflection, mental modern, and sabatini�s own outis music. anyone familiar with the two will know they share an aptitude for adventurous and evolving techno. this is crystallised in this collaboration, which doesn�t take the easy path of creating straightforward club tracks. instead, the three tracks on this release explore the subtler sides of the two producers. that�s not to say this isn�t club music - it is - but they have a lot more to offer than pure functionality. the ep opens with manticora. this eight-minute experience takes the listener through winding claustrophobia as ringing feedback pulses across the stereo field and cavernous rhythms dance about, hard to quite grab. these rhythms build to a point to which they solidify and fall into place, a point at which the track gains a feeling of propulsion, alongside shifting and emotive reverberations and resonances. next up is celeno, a track that slowly unravels under a backing of shuffling hats and a rolling kick drum. twinkling synths swirl around before giving way to a rhythmic and compelling melody. celeno�s musical themes continue into the third and final track, aello, which eases you in with softer drums while a haunting drone builds up. over this, ghostly arpeggios develop alongside weightier drums that carry the track through until the end, leaving just enough time for the drone to ring out and provide a fitting end to the ep.

the totality of the many in one: cologne tape, an on and off gathering band from all over the world, did not call their second album welt without reason. the collective incorporates the nucleus of the label magazine and consists of the artists ada, barnt, jens-uwe beyer, jörg burger, john harten, philipp janzen, mario katz, john stanier and axel willner. all members live scattered between berlin, cologne and hamburg. they meet rarely and abruptly, but each of them always has the feeling that something relevant needs to be done. the ensemble�s name represents a city and the musical recordings that are made in it.their -rst release, -render-, marked the start of the label magazine in 2010 and found the way into dj sets by famed artists like dixon with music, which does not necessarily have the dancefloor in mind. subsequently, little, absolutely sublime pieces of cologne tape appeared in the public.

kreattones third release is here, and we are extremely proud and thrilled to present �day tripper� from the outrageously talented jesse bru. this four-track ep is a lesson on sampling, cutting and building, an aspect already acclaimed and recognized by all that had the chance to hear jesse s work (released on heart to heart, egoplanet, etc�). the opening track shares the ep title and clearly demonstrates mr. bru�s vision on deep-house, with elements coming and going, breaks and drops, all working in perfect harmony. �i want u� is a groundbreaking piece of art, filled with melancholy, heart-driven feelings and shivering whispers, resulting in a gorgeous love song. the first track on the b side, �they told me� is a uplifting tune, with clinic-cut sampling, powerful vocals and beautiful percussion. last but not least �remember how it used to be�, a groovy arrangement of pads and vocals topped with a killer bass, ideal for club use. considering that this one blew our scale, we hope you enjoy this record as much as we do.

it�s time for local talk to go local again with another swedish producer, eric ericsson. with numerous releases out in labels like planet e, fragile and freerange he�s one of those producers with one foot in the techno scene and another in the more soulful house scene. basically, he s not a one trick pony! for his release on local talk we would say he lands somewhere between classic chi-town house and thumping nyc house groove but without sounding too retro or washed out. its simply real house music! we begin with love it, a real bumpy house track with analogue basslines and swinging fender grooves that will work both stateside and in the european house clubs. the second track the chi is as the title suggest a homage to chicago with a slight old school boo williams fee. - dope! but thats not all, to give the release a broader twist we got man of the moment oskar offerman (berlin) to remix love it for us. oskar goes more deep with his trademark sound and gives us a dark mix that will sound amazing in your favourite berlin club of choice.

this release journeys to mid-80s argentina and the highly sought after 2nd solo album of carlos cutaia. inspired by the new electronic sounds emanating from europe, this multi instrumentalist offers more than a pastiche, embedding his own melancholy in a unique and classic nueva wave-album. classically trained, carlos cutaia started as a composer for dance and theatre, before spending much of the 1970s as a member of a number heavy rock, prog rock and rock-fusion bands of some note, before finally going solo with the city of distant tones album in 1983. however, by the time of his 2nd solo album in 1985, as his country finally left behind a long period of military control and enjoyed greater freedoms, carlos was fully immersed in the new electronic pop sounds imported with hungry ears from europe. teaming up with fellow composer, keyboardist and producer, daniel melero and alejandro oucinde, the futurism of kraftwerk and gary numan s tubeway army was embraced, but also adapted to fit their native land, just as it was understand a new modernity. starting with the swagger of visiones incomunicadas, the template is set. sharp drum machines, semi-nonchalant, half spoken vocals set the scene, while chopped guitar and smart synth lines fit the over riding feeling of an intelligent nonchalance. things however, do go beyond the straightjacket of euro-pop as heard on the anthemic programacion and avant twist of the first of two piano-ambient pieces aproximacion dos and its companion piece uno found on the b side). eric satie and minimalism are clearly not far away. however, it is side b opener sensacion melancolica that captures the sound to perfection. a balearic masterpiece, capturing in it s title the over-riding atmospheric of a unexplained sadness, a loss. operativo and the poem humanos de america bring things to an end of a feeling melancolica.
